      1.   In small groups, share your “I Have a Dream” homework, including your responses to the 3 questions at the end of this speech. 

      2.   Share out to the whole class / discuss how the speech uses metaphor, anaphora, and how it echoes the Declaration of Independence. Hand in your MLK speech packets. 

      3.   Review film terms, including pan, high-key and low-key lighting, side lighting /front lighting, cross-cutting, zoom and eye-line match.

      4.   Today we will begin viewing The Pursuit of Happiness. Directions for viewing handed out and discussed.

      1.   Read and discuss Five Things to Know About the Declaration of Sentiments”  (period 2 already did this, so just do this with periods 3 and 4) 

      2.   Read and take notes on The Declaration of Sentiments: summarize and note parallels to the Declaration of Independence 

      3.   Small groups: share your notes and ideas on The Declaration of Sentiments  
  
      4.   Whip around to share out from small groups 

      5.   Learn about the rhetorical devices Metaphor and Anaphora 

      6.   Hand out copies of “I Have a Dream.” Students read it, highlighting/underlining key passages while considering what we have read and discussed so far this year about the Declaration of Independence, the Declaration of Sentiments and the writing students have done about the promises of the Declaration of Independence (5th didn't get to # 5 and #6)

HOMEWORK: Complete the reading of “I Have a Dream” and respond to the 3 questions at the end of this speech. Bring this with you to class next time.
